Greeting Second Baptist Family,
Weekly Pastor’s Notes

On This Day – 1869: 15th Amendment Passed: Congress passed the 15th Amendment, which aimed to prohibit voter discrimination based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude, sending it to the states for ratification.
1872: First Black Female Lawyer: Charlotte E. Ray graduated from Howard University School of Law, becoming the first African American female lawyer in the U.S..
1966: First Black Federal Reserve Governor: Andrew Brimmer was appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson as the first African American governor of the Federal Reserve System.

Thought for the week: Living For God: Romans 14:12 “So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.” (NIV)
Do you realize that we must all stand before Christ to be judged? Paul lets us know in 2nd Corinthians 5:10 that, “for we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” Understand that there will be no hiding anything from Christ on that day and according to 1st Corinthians 4:5, “He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.”
This event is the Judgment Seat of Christ, which happens after His second coming. The purpose of this accounting is to reward believers for the good they have done. But 1st Corinthians 3:11-15 shows us that selfish works will be burned up. Jesus promised that God would reward faithful, diligent service for Him and said you’d be called to give an account for idle words and an idle life (Matthew 12:36: James 4:17).
So please remember, how you LIVE this life, REALLY does matter on how and where you live your eternal life. You’ve been warned!!!

This Sunday’s Scripture
Topic: “Who Am I to You”
Matthew 16:13-19 (KJV)
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
