A Word from the Pastor

(Getting Distracted) 1 Kings 20:39-40(a) – “Now as the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said, “Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and there, a man came over and brought a man to me, and said, ‘Guard this man; if by any means he is missing, your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.’ 40 While your servant was busy here and there, he was gone.”

There are many times in life that we get so caught up and busy with the little things in life and fail to keep our focus on what truly is important. We allow situations, circumstances and sometimes even people to draw our attention away from the assignment that has been given to us and before long we find suffering because we take our eyes off the prize.

Each of us must cultivate the virtue of self-control (2 Peter 1:6). Paul said that we must be “self-controlled and disciplined” (Titus 1:8). When we have been given a task to complete, especially and assignment from God, we must not allow ourselves to be distracted by the simple, insignificant things that the devil uses to get our attention. But we must remain committed to the work that God has assigned our hands to do. (Adapted - 3 Min. Devotions, Barbour Publishing)
